CSR at Padmos
At Padmos, we recognize the responsibility we have towards the world around us. That is why we actively invest in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with a strong focus on people, the environment, and innovation. This not only improves our business operations but also contributes to a more sustainable future.
'Vessels of the Future'
At Padmos, we place great value on continuous development and innovation as the foundation for growth and sustainability. One of our key innovations is the construction of complete vessels, ship components, and pontoons made from HDPE. We achieve this using an advanced welding robot at our plastics division in Bruinisse, also known as the “Shipyard of the Future”.
Green Technologies
Padmos actively contributes to making the maritime industry more sustainable through the application of innovative green technologies. We do this by developing vessels made from high-quality HDPE that can operate both as hybrid and fully electric vessels.
A prime example is the series of E-pushers being built for our client Kotug. These innovative vessels utilize battery technology and operate entirely emission-free. By embracing green technologies, we respond to the growing demand for sustainable solutions within the maritime sector while contributing to a cleaner and healthier world.
More Sustainable Navigation
In addition to the possibility of equipping HDPE vessels with green technologies, this material also offers a more sustainable perspective for the maritime industry in other ways. Corrosion, rust, and the use of environmentally harmful substances remain ongoing challenges within the sector.
By using corrosion- and rust-resistant materials such as HDPE, the need for environmentally harmful substances like paints and coatings is significantly reduced. Furthermore, the production of HDPE has a lower environmental impact than steel and aluminum. Compared to these materials, HDPE is also considerably lighter, resulting in lower vessel weight and reduced fuel consumption for propulsion.
By implementing innovative solutions designed to maximize efficiency, fuel consumption can be reduced even further. In this way, Padmos actively contributes to lowering CO₂ emissions.
Circular Economy
HDPE plays an important role in the circular economy. The material is not only durable and suitable for a long service life but is also fully recyclable. Thanks to its thermoplastic properties, HDPE can be reused multiple times without losing its quality.
By working with recyclable materials, we promote the reuse of valuable resources and reduce the need for new raw materials. In doing so, Padmos makes a tangible contribution to a circular and responsible production process, with consideration for both current and future generations.
From Diesel to Sustainable Mobility
At Padmos, we are consciously taking steps towards a sustainable and future-proof vehicle fleet. By transitioning from diesel-powered vehicles to electric mobility, we reduce our environmental impact and invest in cleaner transportation solutions.
We already operate electric and hybrid vehicles and aim to achieve a fully electric fleet in the future.
Human Capital
At Padmos, investing in Corporate Social Responsibility goes beyond conscious product choices and sustainable working methods. We also invest in the most valuable asset of our organization: our people.
We actively support the career development of every individual by offering a wide range of training and educational opportunities. In addition, we maintain close partnerships with educational institutions to pass on knowledge, experience, and craftsmanship to future generations.
Furthermore, in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for the Metal & Engineering sector, we provide additional senior leave days for employees aged 55 and older. Employees from the age of 60 can also participate in the Generational Pact. Participation in this scheme is actively encouraged at Padmos, as it provides older employees with more time and flexibility, enabling them to continue their careers longer, in good health and with enjoyment.
As an organization committed to sustainability, we are proud of the steps we are taking towards a more responsible and greener future. Padmos aims to set an example within the maritime sector and make a positive impact on the world around us. Through our focus on green technologies, human capital, and sustainable materials, we are not only an innovative shipbuilder but also strive to be a partner for a better world.
